Today is the previos day of the text reading activity...

The oldest sudents share tickets to attend the text reading just the following day. Teachers of both grades help them by matching a young student with an old one.

Once they are in pairs with their tickets they go around the school taking a look at the posters at the classrooms doors so that next day they do not get lost when looking for the one they will go to attend the reading activity.

"Let’s help the others read" DECEMBER ACTIVITY

ACTIVIDAD DE DICIEMBRE
DECEMBER ACTIVITY

"Ayudemos a los demás a leer"

La actividad de este mes consiste en ayudar a los demás a leer. Se nos ha ocurrido que una audición de textos puede ser una buena manera de proporcionar al  alumnado un buen modelo lector y si es de la mano de los alumnos mayores mucho mejor. La actividad la desarrollanos a lo largo de este semana y la finalizamos el viernes. Iremos subiendo fotos.

"Let’s help the others read"

This activity involves all  children in reading activities with other students. The main idea has to do with promoting the cooperative learning among our students as part as the development of social relationships between students.

We call the activity “Attending to a text reading”. It consists in organizing a final event where most children have to attend a text reading while some others are in charge of reading those texts in a loud voice in front of the first ones. We will develo the activity throught the week havin the final reading act next Friday 13 december. We will upload som pictures and videos about the process.

Organisation steps:

1.- There are a number of stories to be told. This time we have chosen the topic “Travels” so we have chosen 26 tales or stories for children related to this topic somehow.

2.- The different grades from three years old Pre-primary students grades to sixth grade are given a story title so that each class has to design a poster based on the given title with the help of their teacher or some other helpers (at times pre-primary school teachers vocational training students). Children do not have to know what the book, tale or story is about. They just have to design a poster according to the title, by imagining what the story is about.

3.- After that, the posters will be pasted at the entrance of the different classrooms.

4.- Every student in every group will be given a ticket by their teachers. The tickets have the number of the classroom where they will have to go to attend the text reading and these tickets have also the title of the story the will listen to).

5.- In a different day children will go around the school checking where the posters are  pasted, so that the day we celebrate the text reading event event they will know what classroom to go. They do not go around school by themselves, they will go with their teachers.

Young learners helpers:

Pre-primary students and first graders will go around together with fourth, fifth and sixths graders who will help them to find the classroom printed in their tickets and who will take them back to the playground after the text reading finishes.  Example: “Six grade A” students will help “four years old students A” to find the classrooms where to attend the text reading so in pairs (one young and one old students will go around school looking for the classroom written in their tickets. Both must have same tickets containing same classroom and text title. Teachers must control this!!!) that way the youngest do not get lost and they feel they are safe around school and during the reading act.

6.- The text reading act day. This day some of the oldest students (sixth graders) who are in charge of reading in front of the others will be ready in their classrooms with the book to be read. These students are chosen by teachers among a group of volunteers who are normally good readers and provide good reading models. The other students in the school look for the classroom their tickets point to attend the reading act and they attend the text reading for 10 or 15 minutes (the time the reading act usually lasts). As it has been mentioned pre-primary students will be walked to the different classrooms where they will attend the text reading by the oldest students in charge of them.
